faq
do you have a store front?
no. cakemaru is currently operating under the California Cottage Food Law. we are located in Santa Clara, CA.
we can provide copies of our business license, health department permit, and our liability insurance upon request.
is it legal to have a home food business in california?
yes. as of january 1, 2013, the california homemade food act-ab1616 goes into effect that allows sales of non-potentially hazardous foods from private homes.
do you deliver?
yes. delivery within the city of Santa Clara is free. all other locations throughout the bay area will be based on Apple Maps' distance from my home to your location. Set up fee is included.
how much notice do you need for an order?
orders are taken on a first come, first serve basis. we recommend that you book your order as early as possible. for weddings, sculpted cakes, or orders $300 and up, at least 4 weeks. For orders less than $300, we need at least 2 weeks. we might accommodate last minute orders depending on our schedule.
can you make character cakes (disney, sports logo, designer brands etc)?
reproduction of copyrighted characters/images without permission is a violation of federal copyright law. We will not be able to make your character cake, unless you have a written permit from the copyrighted holder.
do you do tasting?
you can order a tasting-to-go box for $30 which will have 4 different cake flavors and 4 different frosting flavors. If your cake order amounts to $300 and up, the $30 charge will be deducted from the total of your cake order if you decide to book with us.
can you make gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free cake?
cakemaru does not bake in an allergen free kitchen. all ingredients may at some time or other during the process be exposed to wheat, soy, gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, and egg. The client is responsible for informing the guests of this allergy information.
policies
payment
we accept cash, personal check, and credit cards through square.
deposit
a 50% non-refundable retainer is required to book a date. the total amount must be paid in full 4 weeks prior to your event. Order is not confirmed until we receive a retainer and a signed contract.
cancellation
a cancellation may be made up to 4 weeks before the event. payments made will be refunded within 30 days minus the 50% non-refundable retainer, and the supplies and expenses incurred if production has begun.
refund
cakemaru does not offer refunds.
pick up
pick up option are for 1 tier cakes, cupcakes, and cookies only. pick up will be at our home at a designated time only. cakes 2 tiers and up or sculpted cakes has to be delivered to your event location. The condition of the cake, cupcakes, or cookies once you leave our premises will not be our responsibility.
